Experienced & Respected

For nearly 28 years, Jeff has served as a highly effective and respected prosecutor in Yolo County, and has been the elected District Attorney since 2007.  He is the past President of the California District Attorneys Association, with a national reputation as a highly experienced, respected, innovative and ethical public safety leader.

Balanced & Effective

As District Attorney, Jeff has focused on ensuring that his office embraces a proper balance between the vigorous prosecution of violent crime — for which his office maintains consistently high conviction rates — and the development and implementation of programs designed to help reduce unnecessary incarceration and divert individuals out of the criminal justice system who are better served by alternatives.

In addition, Jeff has:

  • Developed Yolo County’s first successful Mental Health Court & Addiction Intervention Court for those suffering from mental illness and/or serious addiction.
  • Launched a Sexual Predator Unit designed to track and catch child molesters and rapists.
  • Built a High-Tech Division to utilize cutting-edge technology to catch and convict criminals.
  • Decreased needless delays in the criminal justice system.
  • Innovated and effectively deployed the first paperless District Attorney case management system in California in 2010.
  • Deployed an Environmental Unit to catch polluters and a Consumer Fraud Protection Unit to catch con-artists and unscrupulous businesses.
  • Implemented an innovative “Fraud Alert” program to protect seniors and others.
  • Utilized Restorative Justice in a ground-breaking Neighborhood Court Program.
  • Developed a Multi-Cultural Community Council and a Citizens Academy to engage diverse sections of our community.
  • Increased services to victims and educated the public on victims’ rights.
  • Received the Calvin Handy Leadership Award from UC Davis for community leadership in public safety in Yolo County and the campus community.
  • Honored by the Concilio of Yolo County for leadership in developing reformative, inclusive & diverse community programs.
