Experienced & Respected

For nearly 27 years, Jeff has served as a highly effective and respected prosecutor in Yolo County, and has been the elected District Attorney since 2007.  He is currently the elected President of the California District Attorneys Association. Jeff has a national reputation as a highly experienced, respected, innovative and ethical public safety leader, who has developed numerous “Smart on Crime” programs. For example, Jeff created Yolo County’s “Neighborhood Court,” a bold restorative justice-based alternative to traditional prosecution, which has helped thousands of people & become a national model for reform. His innovative reforms are saving tax money and clearing court calendars and jails for more serious crimes, earning the “Democracy Works” award from a local League of Women Voters for its success.

More recently, he partnered with the national organization, Measures For Justice, to develop and launch the first third-party validated district attorney data transparency portal in the nation. Now, members of the public can visit online and dive into Yolo County’s criminal justice data and ask questions about trends, disparities and policy goals. He also recently collaborated with Stanford Computational Policy Lab to become the first district attorney in the nation to incorporate a “Race Blind Charging” program into his case management system. As a result, he and his 30-plus deputies make charging decisions on cases without knowing the race of the parties involved.  This groundbreaking innovation in racial-equity & justice has inspired a new law in 2022, which Reisig sponsored, to expand the program across California.

Balanced & Effective

As District Attorney, Jeff has focused on ensuring that his office embraces a proper balance between the vigorous prosecution of violent crime — for which his office maintains consistently high conviction rates — and the development and implementation of programs designed to help reduce “mass incarceration” and divert individuals out of the criminal justice system who are better served by alternatives.

In addition, Jeff has:

  • Developed Yolo County’s first successful Mental Health Court & Addiction Intervention Court for those suffering from mental illness and/or serious addiction.
  • Launched a Sexual Predator Unit designed to track and catch child molesters and rapists.
  • Built a High-Tech Division to utilize cutting-edge technology to catch and convict criminals.
  • Decreased needless delays in the criminal justice system.
  • Innovated and effectively deployed the first paperless District Attorney case management system in California in 2010.
  • Deployed an Environmental Unit to catch polluters and a Consumer Fraud Protection Unit to catch con-artists and unscrupulous businesses.
  • Implemented an innovative “Fraud Alert” program to protect seniors and others.
  • Utilized Restorative Justice in a ground-breaking Neighborhood Court Program.
  • Developed a Multi-Cultural Community Council and a Citizens Academy to engage diverse sections of our community.
  • Increased services to victims and educated the public on victims’ rights.
  • Received the Calvin Handy Leadership Award from UC Davis for community leadership in public safety in Yolo County and the campus community.
